Staff responded to a body alarm at 1:27 AM, finding Epstein on the floor; reports vary on whether he had a 'noose,' 'orange homemade rope,' or 'handmade orange cloth' around his neck. Epstein later alleged his cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, attempted to kill and extort him, while Tartaglione claimed he discovered Epstein attempting suicide. Epstein was subsequently placed on suicide watch in the HA-Unit.
